A fateful family vacation for The Memorializers' lead keyboardist, Gris, in 2985 led to a memory that stuck with her until 3001 when a fateful driving instruction class with future bandmates Moolti and Veeronna brought them together. The trip was to the Graveyard of Monuments in Ugeeke Intergalactic Park, a designation bestowed upon protected lands and points of interest that contribute to the beauty and history of the Universe. The Graveyard was an outdoor museum featuring the last remaining vestiges of famous landmarks like the Stone Tower of Aleffiffi and the Gorge of Infinite Madness from Loony IX. The silence and reverence for these massive artifacts is palpable. Tour guides instruct visitors to keep the noise to a minimum and use their eyes and cameras to capture this moment in their memories. The history lost and found in the Graveyard is staggering, and the weight of a small youngling like Gris cannot go unstated. Graveyard of Monuments is a sonic family road trip in the most nostalgic ways: starside restaurants, antique stores, long drives with nothing to talk about, eclectic tourist traps. To not admit we, dear Audionauts, that you have been on one of these mind-bending obligations is to realize that you hate fun. While the heavy and somber album cover would indicate the album is an ode to the actual Monuments themselves, it is merely the destination. The trip, here, is where the juice gets squeezed. Speedy synth churns under tumbling drums while the bass keeps the shuttle wagon a-movin'. From pit stops to stopping for pits, Graveyard of Monuments is the intergalactic highway, and that warm, cuddly feeling you get is the helping of unhealthy snacks you pick up along the way. The Memorializers shed a bit of the mental anguish that's commonly associated with family trips and pull out the root, leaving us with an eight-track romp that makes us want to dust off the old wagon and pile the kids in the back as we make our way across the Universe, searching for good, wholesome, family fun.
