Ghost Town
Original Release Date: 10/24/2044
The tumultuous events that preceded the recording of Ghost Town's second album Sonic Revenge have been well-documented (including a cover story in the third issue of our zine Heart Beets). Big Vicious, Sorry Sally, Good Luck Thomas, Gaspar, and Alvin rode the success of their notoriety for almost a decade, declaring the recording studio "gross" and wondering, out loud, if they would ever need to come up with new beats. But waning interest, Prickley Pete had released four albums in that span, and a lack of funds sent them to a dark corner booth in a dingy diner at the edge of the universe. Were they ever that popular to begin with? Their waitress that fateful night, Zadi, herself a ghost, had no idea that the bowl of free berries (more on that later) she was about to deliver would change all of their afterlives forever. There is an adage: wherever there are ghosts, there are berries, but wherever there are berries, there are not necessarily ghosts. A favorite food of all ghosts, berries (blue, black, rasp, boysen, crepluck, ummix, fortenblitz, etc.) were spirit-enhancing, effectively giving any ghost the power to remain slightly transparent at will and enough energy to stave off that bright white light in the sky that followed them. Zadi, who confessed she secretly made beats from the sounds of the noisy kitchen prattle, did not recognize Ghost Town, and they didn't know her from a gobbiberry. But their downtrodden and fearful expressions gave way to an epic conversation that inspired the waitress to hang up her apron. Blowing off the dust of their studio space, their pockets full of berries, Zadi helped Ghost Town revive their iconic sound over six months of rehearsals and recording sessions. Her ability to play almost any instrument allowed the group to expand their horizons, blending the most chill beats with hectic spurts of frenetic energy. Ghost Town was back and you can bet the hydrofarm that they had enough berries to go around.
