Songs for Unsure Whales

Doctor Melville

Original Release Date: 03/06/3668

For a brief time in the early 3660’s, space whales, one of the universe’s most agile travelers, encountered a crisis that threatened the very pipelines of intergalactic commerce. Space whales, for nearly one thousand years, had been employed as space truckers, hauling massive amounts of product between galaxies, their infectious honk the road trip delight of many a child and adult alike. Beginning in 3661, the Intergalactic Union of Space Trucking (IUST) Chapter 1851 began to overwork their loyal employees. Routes became more dangerous, shortcuts between rogue asteroid belts (both of the ice and fire variety) became standard, and the wellbeing of these gentle creatures was on the precipice. Threatening a strike due to these unsafe conditions, almost all commerce was on the brink of coming to a screeching halt. Thankfully, the Union president came to his senses and resigned, revealing a web of corruption that had swelled the IUST’s purse. A whale was eventually elected president and instituted a sweeping policy of changes, including commissioning the album Songs for Unsure Whales that could be played to soothe the loneliness of the road. Created by Doctor Melville, a renowned whaleontologist, the dulcet tones kept the mental health of these important haulers focused and bopping to some of the tastiest lo-fi beats in the universe.

Original Database Entry: Imagined, at first, as therapy for space whales, Songs for Unsure Whales, has no credited artists, yet it is clearly the distinct work of several voices. Whether they are whales are not will most likely never be discovered as the record label that originally released the compilation was destroyed by a death ray from Mars' moon Phobos.
