Ecksplorer
Original Release Date: 07/01/3389
Ecksplorer was born in the sewage of intergalactic skate parks; not the sanctioned ones (later destroyed) but the abandoned factories, the defunct parking lots, and the pot-holed deserts of lunar surfaces. Hard-nosed, loud, and equally abrasive as melodic, the trio made anthems for the fringes. First distributed on cassette, Other Side, their debut album, soon made its way to trick tapes everywhere, the perfect addition to the frenetic editing that made them popular. The album was so ubiquitous that is was inevitable that it, and the band, would find their way into the limelight of success. Other Side was reissued several times in different formats (vinyl, intracompact disk drive, etc.) and, while its popularity did not appear to dwindle at first, it was on a dangerous road: the intersection of legendary and overrated approaching fast. Ecksplorer went out of their way to sponsor events for underprivileged youth, opened skate parks in six different galaxies, and generally tried to avoid obscurity. Their sophomore album recording session was a disaster. They had lost the knuckled edge that had made them a staple, and fans were beginning to lose patience as other band began to emerge. Suddenly the trick tape market was flooded with similar sounding and, sometimes, better, beats. It may seem silly to hang up your gear after such an explosive debut, but Ecksplorer allowed their legacy to fade gracefully, to remain among the most important influences among punk and hardcore. Other Side truly stood out as the quintessential artifact that launched a skating revolution; and, while the sport has become someone corporate, it has luckily been rightfully cemented as the progenitor of skating's revolutionary attitude and Ecksplorer the undisputed godfathers.
