Vaportalk
Original Release Date: 08/07/3786
Vaportalk came screaming out of the Sad Shuffle Movement, a period of emotionally-weighty beats that made creatures stare down at the floor and shuffle from side to side, swaying to the beat, but also absorbing every note as if their brains depended on it. The trio of Vaportalk were particularly well known for their lamentations on the sadness of being on vacation alone. Their "Never Really Where I Wanted To Be" trilogy spanned the snowy heights of Buried Under The Massive Weight of My Own Avalanche, the serene calmness of Take Into Account The Shade of One Million Voiceless Trees, and, of course, the dense, neon glow of the tropical False Memories of an Ocean I Have Never Met. Each album dealt with the hype of vacationing alone, but suddenly remembering the memories of the world left behind, how paradise transformed into a nightmare of emotional and mental anguish that rendered the beauty and decadence null and void. False Memories, in particular, had such a strong visual sense to the beats, that one could be forgiven for feeling like the lapping ocean waves and the echoing drums were truly in your head. The purple rays of sunsets past were the fuel that sent the synthesizer-heavy trio into the studio for the last of their trilogy offerings. False Memories, while acting as a sad reminder of the real world, briefly became a summer (the season, on some planets, which invokes freedom, hedonism, and sunbathing) smash hit. The beats, funky in nature, carried with them an image that some chose to refer to as happier times for themselves. The intended effect had been reversed, and the plot, perhaps, lost, but Vaportalk took it in stride. Whether sadness now or sadness later, their eclectic song titles and the pulsing, electric melody behind them ensured they were always part of any vacation plans, no matter the destination. Clothed With The Sun, the closing track on the album, helped solidify the inevitable dread of returning home, and we hope, dear Audionauts, that you have come to terms with that final moment in the best way possible: alongside the tastiest beats in the universe.
