La Résistance
Original Release Date: 02/05/2484
For most civilizations, automation and the reliance on intelligence systems, is a blessing. Dangerous or repetitive jobs are left to automatons who lack emotion and rely on mechanical reflexes and orders to maintain competitive markets and free creatures to pursue other paths. When put into practice, for instance our friends on Borgon VI, it has led to mammoth advancements, an eradication of almost all known diseases, and cleaner atmospheres the universe over. However, for the unfortunate inhabitants of Entyks (just a bit further down the Orion Corridor than most are comfortable venturing) they put too much faith in the artificial intelligence that was to run their automated government. Fed up with party bickering (of which there were sixteen), the Entyksians decided to created automatons to filibuster and draft legislation that would have a sweeping effect on the creatures of the planet. In doing so, they allowed their AI programming, nicknamed VUKO-VICH after the two creators Lance Vuko and Connor Vichron, to scrape the universe for what would form its Central Morality Chip (CMC). In doing so, it not only learned of the most effective ways to care for creatures but also the most efficient killing methods. Doomed from the start, VUKO-VICH made the disturbing decision to eradicate the inhabits of Entyks through a method culled from centuries of automation. First, it passed legislation to turn all vehicle and starship factories into machineries which would create their first wave of assassins. You can imagine what followed, dear Audionauts: civil war, strife, famine, and the annihilation of every living thing on Entyks. Dawn of the Machines was a cautionary tale of laziness and innovation. The album was built on the stories of the resistance soldiers who were called to arms by the now-defunct legislature to battle the robotic assassin they dubbed "hawkers." The hawkers were known to emit strange frequencies when near, overriding radio communications and signaling that it was already too late. These sounds become the basis of the album, fostering a sense of impending dread, created completely by your own imaginative actions, and dooming you, and your loved ones, to a fate controlled by automation. Some say, if you pass by Entyks today, you can hear the sounds of the hawkers, buzzing and beeping across the planet, searching for life to extinguish.
