Patagium

Original Release Date: 11/25/4044

The Kebegos were considered fodder for the armies of Mustelid, the fourteenth planet in the Ailammam System. The smallest of the furry inhabitants, they were adept at sneaking inside machinery and causing havoc (see Side B, Track 1: Gremlins). They were loyal to their planet, both domestically and intergalactically. The grandson of one such Kebego was Olekhat Patagium. No longer able to be conscripted after peace was achieved in 4044, Olekhat had heard stories of his ancestor taking out military installations, defusing water treatment plants, digging behind enemy lines to sabotage trucking routes, and ambushing a beach raid party who had their sights set on blowing up a squad of stranded Kebegos. After finding a rusted ammunition box filled with photographs of his grandfather, Olekhat set about translating his story to music, using his diary, newspaper clippings, and photocopied reports to help balance the tone and excitement of each track. Whether in the belly of a tank or stuck in the forest with his comrades, there was a beat to explain the boredom and hell of war. Adopting the stage name Patagium by dropping his first name, he unleased Company of Kebegos on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Harbor Island, a six-mile stretch that became a breeding ground of conflict for invading armies, for the only spaceport on Mustelid called this former paradise it's home. While veterans who had served in the Battle were no longer around, it became a memorial to the offspring whose loved ones could not afford photographs and letters. The success of the album, which itself is a sonic romp through some of the most significant battles in Mustelid's history, was grand at first, enough to fund Patagium's second album, Beyond The Stars, an ode to the planet's initial forays into space travel some millennia ago. But, long-term success became more challenging as war broke out again in the southern hemisphere, leading to an interplanetary and civil war. Cloaked in turmoil, the planet did not have the time or space for Patagium's reverence. Today, the battle still rages, while Patagium, last seen in the trenches of Agodoa City, remains optimistic that his offspring will one day spin the tastiest of beats chronicling his own sacrifice.
